Introduction:

My name is Doug Stone and I will be taking over the directorship of YJED for the 2008-2009 Season. YJED has a reputation as one of the premier high school honor jazz bands not only in the Midwest but across the nation. I am looking forward to working with such a capable group of young musicians.

My background in jazz includes performing with Maynard Ferguson and his Big Bop Nouveau, the Joel Spencer Quartet, traveling the world with Liam Teague and Panoramic, and leading my own groups including the Stone/Bratt Big Band, and Clear Conscience. I have written numerous works for small groups and big bands. My teaching experience extends from teaching private lessons, to working at jazz camps including the Birch Creek Jazz Camp in Door County, Wisconsin, to writing commissioned big band works, to being a guest artist and clinician at high schools and colleges, to directing the Northern Illinois University Community School of the Arts Jazz Band. If you are interested in a more in-depth look at my career please visit my website at www.dougstonejazz.com.

We are going to have an exciting year. I have plans to bring in some amazing guest artists, rehearse and perform some great music, play at some cool venues, make a professional recording, and hopefully help the band swing as hard as humanly possible! Please check out the audition information and application, and I look forward to seeing you on Tuesday, October 21.
